WHO OR WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A PHOTOGRAPHER :
I once fell for a guy when I was young.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SHOOTING :
9 years.

WHAT’S BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE SHOOT :
The story takes place in Las Vegas. I received a private message from a very unique model who had appeared on “America’s Next Top Model.” Due to a medical condition, she couldn’t grow hair, but she had striking facial features and a highly recognizable look in photos. She lived in Las Vegas and expressed a strong desire to collaborate on a shoot with me. I was thrilled and decided to create an alien-themed concept just for her.

To match her look, I brought in a stylist to help, but communication issues between the model and the stylist caused the stylist to quit. I quickly found another stylist. We agreed to drive separately to the location, which was a deserted town about a three-hour round trip from Las Vegas. There was an abandoned airplane there — very distinctive and perfect for the shoot. However, the day before the shoot, the model told me she didn’t want to rent a car anymore and claimed it was my responsibility. I didn’t want to cancel since everything was already in place, so I agreed to cover her transportation costs.

But things got even worse on the day of the shoot. The makeup artist called me and said the model had a terrible attitude and that she herself was considering pulling out. The stylist also said the model was unprofessional and didn’t want to work with her anymore. I realized that if my team wasn’t happy, I had to call off the shoot. I explained the situation to the model, apologized, and decided to cancel. The model became furious, said a lot of harsh things, and told me I’d never find another bald model like her.

Even though her words upset me, I knew that I’m JK, and when I set my mind to something, I get it done. I had been shooting in Las Vegas for months and had built good relationships with local modeling agencies. I called an agent and asked if I could work with a model I had long wanted to shoot — she had a distinctive gap between her front teeth, a highly recognizable feature in the fashion world.

It was a Saturday afternoon, but I still called the agent, because the model had a tight schedule and was flying to New York at 3 PM that day. It was an extremely hot day in Las Vegas, with temperatures reaching 113°F (45°C). We started hair and makeup early in the morning. The bald cap used in the shoot was being handled by my makeup artist for the first time she had taught herself how to use it online just the night before.

Despite all the challenges, we completed the shoot successfully. On the way home, everyone was exhausted and covered in dust. The makeup artist even got sick from the heat — she didn’t know yet that she was pregnant at the time. Yet, she still stood by me and chased dreams with me, and I’m truly grateful for that. In the end, the photo series became one of my favorite works and was successfully featured in Vogue.
